I’m telling you right now, this snack mix is my new go to for a party snack. It has everything you want in a snack! It’s sweet. It’s salty. It’s spicy. It has everything good wrapped into one little bite. Not only is it delicious but it is super quick to make, it only takes about 20 minutes from start to finish and that’s including baking time!
For mine I did a mixture of Rice Chex, Corn Chex, pretzels, pistachios and pumpkin seeds. You could absolutely swap out the Chex for your favorite kind and you can use whatever nuts and seeds you already have in your pantry. I’ve also swapped out the pumpkin seeds and pistachios for walnuts and almonds and that was absolutely delicious! You can absolutely make adjustments to the recipe to whatever you like or whatever you already have around. Try switching out the cereal or nuts for a new combination!
To make this snack mix you need to melt your butter with the brown sugar, honey, and red pepper flakes. I do this in a small sauté pan on medium low heat until the butter melts and the sugar and honey have dissolved. It will boil and bubble so don’t be alarmed, that is what it’s supposed to do! You are basically making a spicy caramel sauce in the pan! This should take less than five minutes.
Pour that mixture all over your dry ingredients in a large bowl. Mix everything together until all of your pretzels and cereal are coated evenly then spread on a parchment covered cookie sheet. You definitely want to make sure you line your baking sheet or it will stick! Once you have it spread out evenly, sprinkle with a generous helping of Maldon Salt. If you don’t have Maldon salt, you can use sea salt or kosher salt (not iodized) but don’t use as much!
Bake the mixture at 350 for five minutes, pull it from the oven, stir it up and bake for an additional five minutes. Once that time is up let it cool fully then break apart the pieces and you’re ready to serve! The combination of the sweetness from the honey and rich flavor of the brown sugar paired with the spicy pepper flakes is a delicious combination that you are sure to love! It is fun to serve in a bowl or you can use cute little bags for individual portions but any way you serve it, it is sure to be a hit!
