Easy, Two Ingredient Chocolate Guinness Cake

The first time I made this cake we were all blown away by how good it was, especially for how easy it is to make! This cake is literally two ingredients and you can easily find them in any grocery store.

How to make the cake

The first ingredient is beer. I have always used a dark beer like a stout or a porter. For this specifically I used Guinness. The creaminess and deep, rich flavor make it a perfect combination with a chocolatey cake. You can use any dark beer, especially if you have a local favorite.

The next ingredient is chocolate cake mix. You can use any store-bought chocolate cake mix to make this cake. This time I use Pillsbury Devils Food but I’ve also used other brands as well and it came out just as well.

The trick to making this cake is using enough liquid to mix to make a nice smooth batter. The batter will be thicker than normal, but should be pourable. The trick to making this cake super duper easy is simply replacing all of the water in the directions with the beer. You are going to omit every other ingredient that the cake mix tells you to add and just do beer. Now, because there are other ingredients typically mixed into the cake mix, we will need to increase the amount of liquid that we put in. I added an extra 3/4 cup of beer to the recipe, which makes 1/4 cup plus 2 Tbsp per box!

Bake your cakes according to package instructions and you’re all done! It really is that easy – two ingredients and you have a delicious, chocolatey, semi sweet but slightly savory absolutely delicious cake.

Equipment Used

You can frost this cake with whatever you prefer, but I highly suggest using a couple of my recipes: Whipped Irish Whiskey Ganache and Irish Cream Caramel Sauce. Both recipes are also very easy to make and are pictured in all of the finished cake photos. Use the Cake, Ganache and Caramel recipes to create a delicious Car Bomb style cake!
