Ganache is a sauce that’s super easy to make with only two ingredients! The base of ganache is simply equal parts chocolate and heavy whipping cream. We are going to kick up our ganache a couple of notches by adding Irish whiskey and whipping to make it extra light and fluffy to use as a frosting.
Making Ganache
Making ganache is fairly straightforward. All you’re going to need is a pot and a mixing bowl… and maybe a whisk. To make the ganache heat up your heavy cream until it just starts to bubble if you’d like to cook out the whiskey, add it to the ganache when you heat it up. Once your cream is hot, pour it over your chocolate chips and let it sit for just a moment to melt the chocolate. Using a whisk or spatula, mix until a sauce is formed. That’s it! It really is that simple. Your sauce is now ready to use as it is. You can use it as a glaze or as a drizzle in this state.
To turn the ganache into frosting we need to do one more step. For this step, you will need one piece of special equipment – either a stand mixer or hand mixer and the bowl that goes with that. Whipping up the ganache is as simple as pouring the warm sauce into your mixing bowl and using the whip attachment on medium high speed and let the machine do the work. The process of whipping the ganache takes several minutes, so if it seems like it’s not working, just give it a little bit more time. Whip your ganache until it gets light and fluffy and the color changes from dark brown to a nice light brown.
Equipment Used
The ganache is now ready to use! It can either be piped or you can use it like frosting and spread it on top of any cake you’d like. This whipped ganache is also a fantastic topping for brownies, cookies or really anything else your heart desires!
